Caitlin Jenner’s Impact on Social Media Pieces and the Community

     Caitlin Jenner has become a very influential person in our society today. After documenting her new show, I Am Cait, she is now given the opportunity to share her story and her life struggle with her identity, to the world. Caitlin’s show can be a positive influence in order to help people who are dealing with the same situation as her. Through the power of social media, Caitlin Jenner, has the power to send her message out to society and have a voice. Jenner has become a very popular figure in our world today when it comes to social media networks. She has inspired so many including the transgender community. Due to the fact that she is so brave to talk about such a personal topic of hers, she has made a huge impact on many people in our society who are struggling with who they are. This power of social media not only gives Jenner, but also other people the chance to discuss this topic and give their opinion on Jenner or other issues that are going on around us.

     Through the use of social medias, Caitlin has gained positive feedback from fans and many followers who support her transformation. “A quick of analysis of mentions of Caitlin Jenner in Topsy shows that there have been 475,000 tweets (and rising) mentioned her name in the last 24 hours, with an overall sentiment score of 86 (out of 100), which is highly positive. (Hutchinson, 1). Caitlin gained so many supporters for her new identity. Given the fact that she created her own show, she is trying to work on trans political issues. “In her speech at the ESPYs accepting the Arthur Ashe award, she discussed the recent rash of suicides among transgender teenagers. She discussed the murder of two trans women of color in her well-read blog.” (Brighe, 3). Jenner is a huge role model for people in our society, and is trying to make the transgender community into more than just a nameless group. Her goal is to make people comfortable in their bodies, by sharing her story to the world.

     Although not everyone supports Jenner’s transition, and has positive things to say online, but for the most part, she has been receiving a terrific amount of support from the public on social media networks. It is important that as a community, that we support those who are subject to face abuse online. Abuse is very common, especially when it comes to social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. People need to be aware of this bullying issue and learn to accept everyone, despite our differences. Caitlin Jenner’s story connects with this. Through social media, people have the chance to be connected and share thoughts with the world on specific issues. It is a great opportunity for people who are struggling with who they are and many trans gender’s in our community. I believe that social media is a great tool to use that gives everyone the chance to have a voice.

     Jenner’s son, Burt Jenner is in full support of his father’s transition. In support of his decision, he posted an Instagram, "So obviously a lot has changed... But thankfully, for me, the most important stuff didn't... My dad still loves toys, fun toys, still likes to go fast, still loves adrenaline... And will still whip your ass at... ANYTHING... Yup all you haters, my dad will still probably whip your ass at 65 with implants." (Cohen, 3). By posting this message to social media, he believed that this post would help send a strong message to all of the people who were against Jenner and criticizing her decision. Not everyone in the world is going to agree with Jenner’s decision, but hopefully through Jenner’s strength, they are able to recognize how strong she is for sharing her story with hundreds of people.

     Jenner has made a positive influence on our society for mainly the transgender community. This is an important topic, because we need to stop bullying in our society and support those who are abused online. Social media is such a huge benefit in our world today and people can connect with certain topics, like Jenner’s. A question of why Jenner decided to share her story and create her own T.V show and if she is just doing it for the money. An article states, “Is she doing a TV show? Sure,” Mr. Bissinger said. “Is she doing it for money personally? Sure. This is America. But I saw a person transformed into a woman, who is joyous and happy and free and living life in a way that Bruce Jenner never did”    (Somaiya, 3). Caitlin is doing this because she genuinely cares about our society and other people who are struggling with their gender. She hopes that through her show and spreading her message, people will do the same and feel comfortable to be who they want to be. Now that Caitlin is who she wants to be, she is finally able to be herself, and not have to hide the person who she really is. She hopes through her show, people will follow her lead and be who they want to be.
