DJ Khaled Utilizing Snapchat to Spread his Message
DJ Khaled is best known for his music career as a disc jockey and a famous one at that. He has collaborated with some of the best artists in hip hop including Lil Wayne, Drake, and Fetty Wap. His career has been almost rejuvenated by his latest takeover on snapchat. He’s used this form of social media to express his message of achieving success through working hard and taking care of yourself.
He’s been famous for his “Keys to Success” movement that has inspired others to better themselves and pursue greatness with advice he gives utilizing snapchat. Although some of his advice may seem a little silly he really is trying to help people reach their potential and become better. The whole campaign has really blossomed into something big and people have followed it closely with Khaled becoming a bigger and bigger figure in the entertainment world through his “Keys to Success”.
It’s really been something that people that have gravitated to I know personally I have been a follower of the “Keys to Success”. Khaled has promoted this to get people to live a better life and want to better themselves by using what he thinks are the best way to succeed. He tells people throughout the snapchats that people don’t want you to be able to succeed and do well in life. Throughout his posts he describes them with the word “They”. On an on he’ll go on about ‘they” not wanting you to succeed and to stay away from “they”. He wants people to know that they can do well in life if they stick with the right crowd and stay away fro the negativity.
Billboard put together a top ten list of DJ Khaled “Keys to Success” on billboard.com. They are the best of what DJ Khaled has set his viewers to become more successful. A few of them are, the lion he has in his backyard that resembles a higher power and if you want to be successful you should look to that higher power (http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/6820770/dj-khaled-snapchat-keys-pathway-to-success). Another key was always reaching for the top. Never settle and always strive for the best that is another one of Khaled’s “Keys to Success” (http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/6820770/dj-khaled-snapchat-keys-pathway-to-success). Khaled also offers this word of advice, getting a massage at least once a week (http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/6820770/dj-khaled-snapchat-keys-pathway-to-success). These are just some of the keys that DJ Khaled has talked about on his Snapchat and it’s what everyone has been talking about.
Khaled has really started a movement that has many people following him and his journey through achieving greatness. According to the New York Times article written by Jon Caramanica, DJ Khaled has about two million people viewing his snapchats. “It’s not clear how many followers DJ Khaled has but, a screen grab of his snapchat data suggests that about two million people are viewing each post.”
He has really utilized what is one of the upcoming sources of social media in snapchat. Khaled’s audience is more of a younger following. According to techcrunch.com Snapchat is the third most used social media app amongst millennials. “Snapchat is now the third most popular social app among millennials, according to a recent report by comScore, which finds that Snapchat has 32.9% penetration on these young users’ mobile phones.” As you can see Snapchat is one of the up and coming social media and with the age of his followers this is why he has been so successful. He knows his audience and he speaks in a way that attracts them and brings them back to view more of his posts and that then makes him a more popular figure to the millennials but people all over the world.
Mathew Ingram interviewed students about Snapchat and got their opinions on whether or not they use the social media app and why they like it or use it. One student (Brayden Clark) was quoted saying that they liked using it because it's an exciting way to connect with friends and the world. "I use Snapchat in my everyday life because t makes everything much more exciting. I get to see everything my friends are doing and have a conversation about things" (Brayden Clark,http://web.a.ebscohost.com/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?sid=7d3505bb-5276-44c5-970b-a1219c325651%40sessionmgr4005&vid=4&hid=4104). This backs up the reasoning behind Snapchat being a go-to site for millennials and the big reason DJ Khaled has diplayed his "Keys to Success" on this social media platform.
DJ Khaled has taken his fame to a whole other level by using snapchat, a growing form of social media and using it to spread his message. His message of “Keys to Success” has sparked greatly and has made him him into the popular figure he is today. He knows what medium he is using and this way he can promote people to better themselves. He knows Snapchat is the way to go if he wants people to hear the wor he is spreading and it's working wonders for him.

  1. I really love your topic. I have DJ Khaled on snap chat so I know what the key to success movement is. Using snapchat to get to a younger audience is a great idea. It's great to see him spread positive words and vibes to younger audiences and try to help them be the best they can be.

  2. Great way to promote one's movement. I see a lot of artists and people in general using it as a marketing platform for their every day life and success. DJ Khaled is using it to promote good.

  3. Great article, Matt! I love that your past two have been about music since it is something that I am really into myself. Now a days, some musical artists and athletes are required to be greatly present on social media. DJ Khaled is trying to start trends and movements. He wants to be more than just well known but at the same time, he wants to spread positivity and healthy habits. Although his stories are longer than the average person's most annoying friend, he has some respectful qualities.

  4. Great job on your blog! I know a lot of my friends have him on snap chat and some of his snaps are pretty funny. I think DJ Khalid used snap chat perfectly because he still tried to send a strong message to his audience, but in a more funny relaxed way.

  5. I love the topic you picked. I agree that the social media fad is definitely snapchat at the moment. I think it is a great way to advertise ones self and or a product. DJ Khaled does more self promoting but in a great way. I think this was a great topic to discuss.

  6. Hilarious snap chat and blog topic. This movement has been awesome to watch because it is so rediculous but I think thats maybe why I like it. Like anything else in life, if you put 100 percent of yourself into it, you probably will have success. DJ K has done this! Its so simple...he tells you when you're doing pushups to do "ANOTHER ONE! ANOTHER ONE! AND ANOTHERONE!" It is so simple but he is all in on this motivation and it is now spreading across the country where "Another one" is becoming a well known DJ K phrase.
