Sleep Sleep Sheeple

Everywhere I look I see people barley living. I see people working from nine to five, five days a week and when they aren’t robotically performing their unfulfilling jobs they are sitting in front of a screen mindlessly soaking in information that distorts and transforms that persons version of reality. Not only are we all bring brainwashed we are also becoming apathetic. Apathy is the worst quality to carry with us.  It drags us down and makes us not think or even care what is truly right or wrong with the world around us. We are asleep! Wake up!
There are four tiers to our problem. Lets work our way backwards. It ends with us, the consumer. We buy and consume products that are unnecessary and trivial to the human existence. Why do some of us watch TV when we get home? Why do some of us play video games? Why do some of us shop online for hours? Boredom. We come home and have nothing to do so we sit in front of a screen and kill time. Why don’t we do something productive with our time instead? Because we are caught in a whorl pool. The screen and the media has a certain power over us that sucks us deeper and deeper into it with out us even realizing it. This means that the more we view media the more that’s all we want to do and that becomes the only way we can spend our free time. Sounds a lot like drugs to me. It’s a struggle to break out of patterns once you get caught in them. It takes a strong will to be able to sail yourself out of the crushing tides of the media.
There is plenty for us to do that does not involve looking at a screen. Clean your room; I’m sure it needs it. Be creative. Draw a picture, build a sculpture, learn to enjoy the silence and calmness of the world, go for a walk. The problem with these things is that they all take energy. We are lazy and asleep! We have become untrained and unwilling to be productive and use our brains. This brings me the next tier, the mass media the reason why we are asleep.
We, the consumers, consume what is pumped out of the mass media. Its job is to entertain, inform, make us docile and most importantly make money. Now I’m not saying that media should be outright discarded and never used. I understand that that is unrealistic. But the level of which the majority of us use the media is unacceptable. If we spent the same amount of time we do looking at screens on something more thought provoking the world would be a radically different place. We would be able to think for ourselves and create things we never thought were possible. I tell you what, we wouldn’t have Donald Trump taken as “seriously” as he is. The government doesn’t want us to think, but that’s a later point.
What the mass media is shitting into our brains is nothing more than irrelevant information that is used to make them more money.  The more shit that they pump out the more money they can make. Bringing us to tier two of four. Money! We don’t care anymore if information is relevant or thought provoking because we have become so desensitized to the smell and taste of the excrement we are eating to sustain our own livelihood. The more shit we eat the more money is made. It all really comes down to making money. The only reason we have the mass media is so rich people can make more money. That’s all this world has come to now. Money, money, money. If the rich weren’t concerned with making the most money possible there wouldn’t be as much garbage being released by the mass media to its ever-loving flock of consuming sheeple. Which brings us to the tier that started it all. Corporations, the government, and the rich.
We consume media. The mass media makes media to make money. Corporations get that money so they can stay in power. See the chain? Money is only a tool that the people on top with all the power use to stay in power. The more money they have the more power they posses.  Money makes the world go round. It seems like that’s what everyone wants. Not to be happy or satisfied with our little pile of dirt. We want a bigger pile of dirt! The rich love the fact that we are asleep, it makes their jobs that much easier. The media we consume puts us to sleep allowing the powerful to say and do as they please. And what happens now when they get caught? Nothing much, because we are apathetic and don’t care. The rich have pumped us so full of heroin that we have become powerless and compliant with them staying on the tippity top of the social latter.
Our government has even fallen victim to the rich. But aren’t they also the rich? The government is supposed to stand for the people and do what is in the best interest of the people. Unfortunately that is untrue in today’s world. The government stands for the rich getting richer and the people becoming poorer and stupider. Stupid people are easy to control. And how do they make us dumb ditty dumb? You guest it! The mass media!

The only solution I see is to reject the social constructs that have become the norm. Break out of the cycles of your everyday life. Put down the remote and take a deep breath of fresh air. I assure you its much better than the hell your living in now. Force yourself to be strong. Embrace the will power that I know you posses. Think for yourselves and don’t waste what you have inside of that wonderful mind of yours by putting yourself to sleep. Please, I am begging you. Wake up.

  1. Hey Gaby, I totally agree with almost all of what you said within your post. However, I do think that mass media can be beneficial towards us as well. Think of the Humans of New York guy. He brings the nation stories that we would not have known otherwise. Some of those stories even lead to those in need receiving donations. The media can give opportunities to people that they may not have had access or knowledge about before. The media is kind of a toss up. There are people who will just listen to the shit, and those who will go looking for more evidence. It's the consumer that is allowing the media to consume him, not the other way around.

  2. Very interesting blog gaby! My sleep schedule has been messed up since the summer, I wouldn't get home from work until 1am 4-6 times a week. So on average I wasn't getting to bed until around 2p-5p every night. It was awful and unhealthy but I couldn't help it. It has been challenging keeping a normal sleep schedule again at school. It very easy to fall back into. I'ver learned that sleep is very important and good for your body and mind's growth!

  3. Very interesting blog. Really makes you think and question things you've always just taken for granted. Makes you think outside the box. As for all the media and technology sucking the life out of us, I agree. I'm sick of seeing entire tables of people eating together but all on their phones not interacting with each other and enjoying each other's company's like we used to. However this technology is what makes our generation and future generations so incredible. So I take the pro and cons of this situation as with great power comes great responsibility.
